Fay Ku gains most of her inspriation for her childhood experiences. She describes growing up in two very distinctly different cultures, both her chinese culture shown to her by her immigrant parents, and American culture, outside her home. This is not only two different languages, or social rules, but also a different worldview. This has inspired her to learn about different world views, and present different cultural ideas in her art work. This challenged me to place different world perspectives in my art peices as well.
Cynthia Kampelmacher uses past photographes to be her starting point for creating an art peice. She then looks for empty space, details that are missing. She uses different materials to turn a photograph into a drawing. Her goal is to challenge and explore the visual field and find the problems with natural presentation of images. This idea of taking a photograph and editing it with graphite and sumi ink, perplexed me. I am really curious, and would like to try this method myself.
I was orginally drawn to these art pieces because I have not seen anything like them, and their bright colors. Kackar- Demirel aims to balance physical and emotional aspects of environments, or memories creating a narrative in her art. The viewer can also come to their own conclusion about a narrative, she attempts to balance choas and harmony. She also uses many different types of materials such as ink, graphite, watercolor, pastel, threading, and knitting to make her pieces exciting and to be able to tell her story better. I really appreciate the emotion that is placed in each of her painting, and how choas is apart of her art.
Christina Mazza aims to look an individual items that are often over looked, forgotten, or thrown away. She pulls each object out of its context and isolates the object to show the detail of the object, to show its beauty and its fragility. The object that would normally be thrown away then gains beauty because it is acknowledge as being valuable to the viewer. I really appreciate the depth that is behind each art piece, and I find my self gravitating towards art that show the beauty in the small things, including things that are over looked.
This artist has limited herself only to pencil and graphite acrylic. Because she has limited herself to only these materials, she has created a balance between very realistic and surreal. In this piece, I am impressed with this balance, and also the depth that she has created within this piece. This artist primarily focuses on interpersonal relationships as the focal point of her inspiration. She also uses dark lines to draw your eyes to particular spots, and lighter lines to create layers within the piece.
